Did you know that Lightening Ridge is the only place in the world where black opals are found? These opals are known for their dark body tone and vibrant flashes of color, making them highly sought after by collectors and jewelry enthusiasts alike. The town of Lightening Ridge is located in New South Wales, Australia, and has been a hub for opal mining since the late 1800s. An interesting fact about Lightening Ridge opals is that they are formed from the remnants of ancient sea creatures that lived in the region millions of years ago. These creatures left behind shells and other organic materials that were eventually transformed into the opals we see today. With such a fascinating history and unique beauty, it's no wonder that Lightening Ridge opals are considered some of the most prized gemstones in the world.
